ISO 14001 compliance certification

Stratus' commitment extends to its selection of the companies it engages to manufacture its computer systems. We will contract with only those manufacturers that have secured ISO 14001 compliance certification or are committed to and are actively pursuing ISO 14001 compliance certification, the leading global standard for environmental management systems. We believe that our manufacturing partners must share our commitment to establish and meet socially responsible environmental standards, utilize environmentally safe technologies and operating procedures, minimize the amount and toxicity of waste generated in their operations and ensure the safe treatment and disposal of waste.

Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) and the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directives

Stratus Technologies is committed to compliance with all applicable laws and regulations related to the conduct of its business and sale of its products and services. This includes compliance with the European Union ("EU") Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) and the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directives.

Stratus has plans, resources, and processes in place to comply with the WEEE Directive as implemented in each of the EU countries. As of August 13, 2005, all shipped products are properly labeled as required by the Directive. Except as may be otherwise mandated by an EU country, Stratus will be the registered producer in each of the EU countries and will engage local recyclers in the EU to collect Stratus products for safe and responsible recycling as defined in the directive.

Stratus also has plans, resources and processes in place to ensure that its Intel processor-based ftServer products comply with the RoHS directive by July 1, 2006. Stratus will eliminate or reduce the use of lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls, and polybrominated diphenyl ethers in these products sold in the EU, as defined by the RoHS directive.
